I'm curious about converting Celsius to Fahrenheit, or Fahrenheit to Celsius. How do I convert from one to the other?
I'm not the greatest at math, but I knew the answer to this one, thanks to my 7th grade science teacher and a pretty cool science project I made that year!
The Celsius and Fahrenheit scales measure the temperature of water and air. The Fahrenheit scale is used in the United States, while the rest of the world uses the Celsius (formerly Centigrade) scale.
In 1714, a German physicist named G. Daniel Fahrenheit developed a scale where water freezes at 32°F and boils at 212°F. In 1742, Anders Celsius, a Swedish astronomer, created a scale where the freezing point of ice is 0°C and the boiling point of water is 100°C.
To convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit: multiply by 1.8 and add 32. For example,
(72°C X 1.8) + 32 = °F 129.6°C + 32 = 161.6°F
To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius, subtract 32 and divide by 1.8. For example,
(72°F - 32) ÷ 1.8 = °C 40 ÷ 1.8 = 22.2°C
